چکیده
The Buccal Micronucleus Cytome (BMCyt) in exfoliated buccal epithelial cells is a minimally invasive method for assessing chromosomal instability, DNA damage and cell death. It has been widely used in occupational and lifestyle related studies. For the present study 63 male subjects were taken out of which 32 were vegetarian and 31 subjects were nonvegetarian matched with respect to their age, sex and dietary habits. The result of micronucleus assay depicted significantly (p<0.05) increase in the mean frequencies of BN and KL in non-vegetarian subjects as compared to vegetarians.

Genotoxic Effects of Tobacco on Buccal Epithelium: Cell Nuclear Anomalies as Biomarker
Background: Tobacco use has toxic effects on different organs. This study was carried out to assess the effect of indigenous tobacco both in smoking (bidi) and smokeless (gutkha, zarda and khaini) forms on buccal cells at chromosomal level, through assessment of different nuclear anomalies as biomarker. Methods:This study was done on people living in Durgapur and its adjacent areas, West Bengal...
متن کاملMicronucleus Assay in Exfoliated Buccal Epithelial Cells Using Liquid Based Cytology Preparations in Building Construction Workers
Background and objective:Cytogenetic damage in exfoliated buccal epithelial cells due to environmental and occupational exposure is often monitored by micronucleus (MN) assay using liquid based cytology (LBC) preparations. This study was performed to evaluate MN in exfoliated buccal epithelial cells of building construction workers using LBC preparations. <strong...

Urinary amino acids were determined in 162 individuals (62 young non-vegetarians, 24 elderly non-vegetarians, 40 young vegetarians and 36 elderly vegetarians) by thin layer chromatography (TLC) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The two methods used in this study were compared. The difference in the percentage frequencies of detection by TLC and HPLC in non-vegetarian group was ...
متن کاملNuclear anomalies in the buccal cells of calcite factory workers
The micronucleus (MN) assay on exfoliated buccal cells is a useful and minimally invasive method for monitoring genetic damage in humans. To determine the genotoxic effects of calcite dust that forms during processing, MN assay was carried out in exfoliated buccal cells of 50 (25 smokers and 25 non-smokers) calcite factory workers and 50 (25 smokers and 25 non-smokers) age- and sex-matched cont...
متن کاملEffects of diet and age on oxidative damage products in healthy subjects.
Damage of molecules as a consequence of oxidative stress has been implicated in the pathogenesis of chronic diseases related to aging. Diet is a key environmental factor affecting the incidence of many chronic diseases. Antioxidant substances in diet enhance the DNA, lipid and protein protection by increasing the scavenging of free radicals. Products of oxidative damage of DNA (DNA strand break...
